GeekBuddy – adware

This is an adware released by COMODO that after infiltrating in your PC will cause major harm to your browsers (IE, Chrome, Edge and others); next, the machine itself will crash. What will it do? The annoying browser hijacker tends to display tons of fake alerts that will appear convincing enough to make you think that a virus infection took place. A certain phone number (888-351-8017) will draw your attention, pretending it’s a dedicated hotline for urgent support. The point is: those scammers will charge you money in different ways, whether they will ask for bank account details, or some cyber security products – sold to you; also, they may ask for remote access to your PC; bug your device and so on. The first thing not to be done is to dial their telephone number. Ignore the notifications and hang the phone if you already called them.

In order to avoid the first or repeated contact with the unpleasant rootkit-like app be very selective when downloading files and apps form the Internet. GeekBuddy is often caught from freeware. You won’t be aware about the act of infection until the pop-up invasion will start. The unsolicited boxes that appear allegedly on your screen are not the only problem to worry about. Your browser will behave inappropriately interrupting the surfing sessions with non-relevant search results; by covering the info you need with banners; by altering your texts with in-text links and consequently, exposing you to risk, because even an involuntary click may lead you to harmful sites full of malicious malware. In addition, the nasty adware gets spread through email attachments, infected sites, Internet networks.

Your approval will never be asked, but the browser configuration will be utterly modified, so you’ll not recognize the homepage, new tab URL, etc. One day, your machine won’t be able to perform any task: settings will be changed slightly, one by one, among which the desktop background, the Internet connection and the host file system.

GeekBuddy should be removed for some other reasons as well: it threatens your private data; it will create unauthorized desktop folders; it will alter the Registry Editor, Command Prompt and not only; it can corrupt proxy servers and disable security systems.
